Tailored Clothing: Not Just for Special Occasions

The best tailored pieces are the ones you wear even when there is no dress code.
Walk into most closets today and you'll find a suit reserved for weddings, funerals, interviews, and the occasional holiday party.
Somewhere along the way, tailored clothing became something we wear because someone else expects us to. I think that's a shame. The best sport coat or suit isn't a costume. It isn't an obligation. It's simply well-made clothing that fits beautifully.
We don't think twice about wearing our favorite pair of boots to dinner, our favorite watch to work, or our favorite jacket on a fall afternoon. We enjoy those things, so they become part of our everyday lives. Tailored items should be no different. I'm not suggesting you wear a navy suit to the grocery store. What I do recommend is elevating each outfit appropriately; throw a sport coat over your shirt and jeans or swap a sweatshirt for an Oxford cloth shirt on a Saturday morning. What you'll realize is a great jacket can be just as comfortable as your favorite sweatshirt while making you feel more put together.
Some of my favorite looks aren't formal at all. A brown sport coat, denim, loafers, and an Oxford cloth button-down. A made-in-America navy blazer over a chambray shirt. A tweed jacket with moleskins and boots on a crisp October afternoon. None of those kits require an invitation. They simply make ordinary days a little more enjoyable.
That's really what tailored men's clothing has always been about. Not impressing other people. Not following a dress code. Wearing a blazer on a Tuesday isn't about impressing anyone. It's a way of saying that today matters. That the people you'll meet matter. That your work matters. That you're willing to put just a little more care into how you show up in the world. At C.
